The ART of homeopathy
What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a natural medicine system developed in the late 18th century, by German physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.
The word Homeopathy comes from Greek origins.
Homoios means similar.
Pathos means disease or suffering.
It is based on a simple principle:
like cures like
How Homeopathy Works
Homeopathy works by stimulating the body’s own healing response.
The medicine itself does not directly fix the issue.
Instead, it acts as a signal to the body, prompting its innate intelligence, often referred to as the vital force, supporting its ability to respond, regulate, and restore balance.
How are Homeopathic Medicines Traditionally Prepared?
Homeopathic medicines are made from plants, minerals, and other naturally occurring substances.
They begin with a natural substance that is dissolved in water or alcohol.
The solution is then diluted in a set ratio, most commonly 1:10 or 1:100.
At each stage, it is vigorously shaken, a process known as succussion.
Dilution and succussion together are called potentisation.
This process reduces the physical substance while retaining its energetic imprint, allowing the remedy to act as a subtle signal to the body.
Why This Matters
Homeopathy is not about forcing change in the body.
It works by matching the remedy to the individual, including their symptoms and overall state.
When the right remedy and potency are selected, this stimulus can guide the body to regulate itself, often leading to a felt sense/state of ease, relief, and a return to balance.
The Minimum Dose
Homeopathy works with the body, not against it.
It follows the principle of the minimum dose, using only a small amount to stimulate the body’s natural healing response.
When a well-matched remedy is taken, the body is supported to respond, adjust, and return to balance in its own time.
Less is more.
A Practical Illustration
Think of a bee sting. The skin often becomes red, swollen, hot, and painful.
A homeopathic medicine made from the bee, known as Apis mellifica, is prepared through repeated dilution and succussion.
In this form, it may be used to support similar symptoms such as redness, swelling, and stinging sensations, reflecting the core principle of homeopathy: like cures like.
Choosing a Remedy
The listed traditional indications summarise the main symptoms associated with each 6c homeopathic medicine.
In acute situations, you may find that only some of your symptoms match.
In this case, use the principle of like cures like as your guide. Choose the remedy that most closely reflects your overall symptom picture.
It is not necessary for every symptom to match exactly.
If there is no noticeable change after two doses, move on to a different remedy.
